Mystery Teams Revealed

It was a great turnout today with 10 bowlers, and Dude got a day off.  However the need for three lanes presented some challenges for showing the teams/handicaps on the overhead scoreboard, so I didn't.  This afternoon we saw Team Phantom Strikers with Mike R, Mike T, Scott, Tom and Rick, take on Team Alley Avengers manned by Maurice, Cary, Doug, Bo, and Todd.  And again, as of late, the team I was assigned to fell a bit short.  I'm wondering if I've become the group jinx?  Maybe I need to reconsider the random name selector I've been using to assign teams.  

As I've already alluded, Team Alley Avengers grabbed the overall honors today winning games 1 & 2, with enough pins to secure the overall total of the three games, winning game 4!  Team Phantom Strikers did pull out a consolation win in game three with Mike R, Tom, and Rick having three of the top four scores in game 3.

Although Maurice did not have a personal best individual score today, he did have his best three-game average of 127 pins, vaulting Maurice into the top individual spot today with 641 NET pins for the afternoon.  Dispite my 4-splits in 7 frames in the first game and a mediocre second, my 214 in the third game barely squeaked out a second place finish with 608 NET pins over Bo who finished a solid third with 606 NET pins.

More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Bowling Balls, Oil Patterns, And Bowling In General

I went out of my way to find this video for the group.  This video is as complete a general overview of the game of bowling as I've seen.  The video is 28 minutes long, so pour yourself your drink of choice, sit back, and enjoy.  This is not a bowling instructional video, however, if you choose to watch the entire video please play close attention to the Pro's hand release action, almost always shown in slow motion.  If you don't take away anything else from this video, note that the Pro's achieve their rotation at the release of the ball by lifting the fingers and their hands from a tilted (4 O'clock) position from under the ball.  Not once do they rotate their hand over the top of the ball, or at all for that matter.

How Hidden Technology Transformed Bowling

Cary had a good day bowling last Wednesday, and a better day today.  Cary's three game average today of 153 is 25 pins over his 10 week average of 128, giving him a NET of 663 total pins and the top spot for the week.  My third game today was riddled with splits crippling my 2nd week return to form.  But I still managed to grab the 2nd spot on todays leaderboard with my day's average of 176 resulting in a NET 642 pins.  Rounding out the top three was Todd, bettering his 10 week average and scoring a NET 607 pins for the day.

Cary also posted another significant move regarding his handicap.  Between last week and today, he shaved 4 points.  And I was able to gain one more point on Liam.

I know I've expressed in the past my disappointment in our groups failure as as social drinking group.  You'll have to forgive my choice of team names this week.  I realize nothing could be further from the truth!

The early games were close.  Team "Here 4 Da Beer" only managed slim victories in the first and second games, 13 and 10 pins respectively.  Team "Knocking Down Pin(t)s" however, let the third game completely get away losing by 75 pins.
